The Venue

Brookside Country Club is a terrific venue with some of the best staff I have worked with....at least from my perspective. It's important but sometimes I feel like nuisance asking to come out and scout the venue prior to the day but Brookside never faltered and was very accommodating. At first what I thought would be challenges, the grounds worked out to be very inspiring and offering plenty of locations for shade and sun photos.

My Takeaway

I had a great time! What was getting to be slightly larger sized wedding party, they were fun, cooperative and a pleasure to work with. The ladies even remembered it was my birthday and wished me a Happy Birthday.

The bridal suite is a bit challenging. With low ceilings and windows tucked down short hallways, it was difficult to find an easy way of balancing ambient and flash. I needed fill light and the overhead room light didn't look good for the photos. It took a little finesse but I am happy with the result.

Pre ceremony pictures worked well for both the girls and guys (shot separately) as there was a large area of shade over by one of the tea boxes. This was good because I wanted to make sure no one sweated too much before the ceremony. And with the space being as large as it was, we were able to shoot a variety portraits. One thing that should be planned for when photographing the wedding party separately in the morning, is the extra transition time from when the girls are done outside and walk back inside and are secluded out of view to when the guys can then come out of their space and out for pictures. Depending on where pictures are happening, this can easily take 15 minutes which in the wedding world (especially pre ceremony) is a lot of time! So you have to plan for this or the timeline can be thoroughly behind.

The ceremony location is a bit exposed to the sun. It is challenging but at least the sun is even and with a bit of editing magic. things turn out looking pretty good. The only shots that I don't love , is the shot of the the bride's face during the ceremony and the bride and groom raising their arms as the walk back as I felt the sun was just a bit harsh at this moment and I was unable to soften more.

My Favorite Parts

Did I was it was my birthday. And if ever there was a dance party to be had on a birthday...this was it! So much fun on the dance floor!!

Sun flare! "I got a fever and the only prescription is more...sun flare. Gotta have more sun flare!"
