A Rittenhouse Hotel wedding offers more than elegant surroundings—it creates the perfect beginning for a wedding day centered on family, history, and meaningful moments. Anne Marie and Josh's Philadelphia wedding was all of those things: intentional, intimate, and authentic. From a quiet morning at The Rittenhouse to a heartfelt ceremony at St. John the Baptist Church, portraits among the historic architecture of Old City, and a family dinner at Giuseppe & Sons, every part of the day reflected not only their relationship but also the chapter of life they have built together in Philadelphia.

Why Couples Love a Rittenhouse Hotel Wedding

Located on the edge of Rittenhouse Square, The Rittenhouse is one of Philadelphia's most iconic luxury hotels. Its elegant suites, attentive service, and timeless design make it a favorite location for wedding preparations. For couples planning a Philadelphia wedding, the hotel offers the perfect balance of sophistication and comfort, while placing some of the city's most beautiful churches, historic landmarks, and portrait locations just minutes away. For Anne Marie and Josh, it provided a peaceful place to begin a day focused on what mattered most: family, faith, and each other.

A Rainy Morning Filled with Family

The day began inside The Rittenhouse as soft rain drifted across the city. For many couples, rain on a wedding day can feel like a setback. As a Philadelphia wedding photographer, I've found the opposite is often true. Rain has a way of slowing everything down. It softens the light, deepens the atmosphere, and often creates some of the most romantic photographs of the entire day. The mist hanging over the city streets and the reflections dancing across the pavement gave Philadelphia an almost cinematic quality.

Inside the bridal suite, the focus remained exactly where it belonged.

Anne Marie spent the morning surrounded by the women closest to her, including her one-year-old niece Sophie, who brought plenty of smiles and energy to the room. Across the hotel, Josh and the men enjoyed a relaxed morning together before the ceremony.

The details surrounding Anne Marie told a story spanning generations. Ten Pennies Florist created a bouquet that beautifully showcased the family heirlooms Anne Marie carried throughout the day. Her bouquet carried a photograph of her late grandmother, who had shared more than fifty years of marriage with her grandfather. Draped around the bouquet was her great-grandmother's rosary, arranged in the same style her grandmother carried on her own wedding day. Even her engagement ring connected past and present, having originally belonged to her grandmother.

A Surprise Rolls Royce First Look

Anne Marie and Josh first met while attending the University of Louisville. Josh was in dental school, Anne Marie was studying dental hygiene, and their first date took place at a Kentucky bourbon bar—a fitting beginning for a relationship that would continue to celebrate their shared love of Kentucky traditions.

One of the most memorable moments of the day was built around a surprise.

Knowing Josh's passion for classic cars, Anne Marie arranged for a vintage Rolls Royce from First Class Luxury Limos to be part of the wedding day. The first look was designed entirely around that surprise.

As the car arrived, Josh's excitement was immediately obvious. Then Anne Marie stepped out.

The genuine surprise and emotion that followed created one of those moments photographers dream about capturing. It wasn't just about the car. It was about the thoughtfulness behind it and the joy of seeing two people who genuinely delight in making each other happy.

A St. John the Baptist Church Wedding Ceremony

The ceremony took place at St. John the Baptist Church, the couple's home parish and a place deeply connected to their faith.

Family participation was woven throughout the Mass. Josh walked with his parents and Anne Marie's mother. Sophie and her mother served as flower girls. Josh's sisters each participated with readings, while his father concluded the ceremony with the Universal Prayers.

It was clear throughout the service that this wasn't simply a wedding celebration—it was a family celebration.

When the ceremony concluded and they walked down the aisle as husband and wife, the emotion of the day finally settled in. At the entrance of the church, they paused for a quiet embrace, sharing a moment of gratitude and reflection before stepping back into the celebration.

Old City Philadelphia Wedding Portraits

Following the ceremony, we headed into Old City for portraits.

One of the advantages of a Rittenhouse Hotel wedding is its proximity to some of Philadelphia's most iconic wedding photography locations. Within minutes, couples can move from elegant hotel interiors to centuries-old architecture and historic landmarks.

Anne Marie and Josh chose Old City because they felt a connection to its history. Much like their relationship, the neighborhood is built on stories that have stood the test of time.

Among our portrait locations was the Second Bank of the United States, one of Philadelphia's most recognizable historic landmarks. Its towering Greek Revival columns and grand stone facade created a timeless backdrop that perfectly complemented the classic feel of the day.

The lingering rain added another layer of beauty to the portraits. The soft light and reflective streets enhanced the romantic atmosphere and served as a reminder that imperfect weather often creates the most memorable images.

An Intimate Celebration at Giuseppe & Sons

Before heading to dinner, the newlyweds enjoyed a private champagne toast in the back of the Rolls Royce, creating another memory they will undoubtedly cherish for years to come.

The evening concluded at Giuseppe & Sons, one of Center City's most beloved Italian restaurants. The choice was deeply personal. It was one of the first restaurants Anne Marie and Josh visited after moving to Philadelphia and quickly became one of their favorite places.

The celebration felt less like a traditional reception and more like the perfect family gathering. There was incredible food, plenty of Kentucky bourbon, heartfelt stories, and endless laughter around the table.

The bridesmaids' spring-inspired dresses in shades of blue and yellow added a cheerful touch, while the men wore classic black suits that allowed Josh's tuxedo to stand out.

It was intimate, authentic, and completely reflective of who they are as a couple.
