The Venue

Water Works by Cescaphe is probably one of the more popular spots in Philadelphia. And it's easy to see why. Great ceremony location, great reception space, and some of the most iconic picture locations in the city.

My Takeaway

I wouldn't be doing any one any good if I wasn't completely honest. With that said, this ceremony space can be tough. But it's worth it. As you can see in these photos, the sun can be extremely difficult to deal with as it peeks through the columns. This makes the procession difficult as people are walking in and out of direct sun. My solution was to expose for the sun and enough fill flash for the shadows while still looking natural. I think Water Works is aware of this and they have some strategically placed plants to cut down on some of the sun and glare. All in all, with a little know how and time to figure out the light, things can work out nicely.

I was also impressed with the venue 'director' and their willingness to let me bring some of their furniture outside. When photographing wedding parties, I think it looks nice to find ways to vary the heights of people so it doesn't just look they are standing there in a line. Boring! So I brought out their ornate chairs and had some people sit in the seat and then some others on the arms of the chairs. All I had to do was ask and Cescaphe said SURE !!

The food is awesome! Goes without saying because its Cescaphe.

The reception space is simple but elegant. They don't try to be too much but rather showcase who they are. Not real big, but if they say your party size will fit then I would feel good about it feeling comfortable.

My Favorite Parts

These guys are so nice!! I instantly felt welcomed and like one of their long time friends.

This couple not only loved each other, but they LIKE each other. lol I can tell their relationship is based on respect and friendship.

They brought their pup! Every wedding should have a dog.

I love walking through the city and taking pictures. After their first look at city hall, we walked back to the hotel shooting along the way which gave us those fun editorial action shots of them crossing the street.

And finally I love when some cries during the first look. This time it was dad's that brought the tears :)
